William A. White
2nd Lieutenant
Aviation Section - Signal Corps
U.S. Army

Mr. White was the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. White of West Point. Prior to his service in the Army Mr. White worked for the Electric Supply Company where he was employed for several years prior to the war. He received his basic training at the University of Texas in Austin and his flight training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant on February 15, 1918. He served as a pilot for the Signal Corps in combat operation in France.

On November 11, 1918, Armatice Day, Lt. White volunteered for a reconnaissance mission over German lines. The Germans, suspecting a trick, shot the plane down, in which he was flying as an observer, and he was killed. The Armatice was to be signed at 11:00 A.M. on November 11, 1918. Lt. White and his crew were buried in the garden of a French woman as West Point, MS., celebrated the war's end.
