Mr. Stafford was born on June 27, 1922 and joined the Army at age 19 on December 12, 1940. Assigned to the 67th Armored Regiment, his unit was sent overseas on November 8, 1942 where he participated in the Allied invasion of North Africa under the command of General George S. Patton. After the Germans were defeated in North Africa, Corporal Stafford was engaged in the invasion of Europe by Allied Forces.

He was wounded in Germany on October 20, 1944 and died of his wounds the following day, October 21, 1944. He was survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Stafford, Sr. and two brothers, both of whome served in World War II, Seaman Gordon Stafford and Sergeant Marshall Stafford. His body was returned to the United States and is buried in Section E1, Lot 54 of the Greenwood Cemetery.
